Assemblyman Tim Gordon To Read To Children At Seton Health's Schaghticoke Family Health Center

TROY, N.Y.On Friday, August 13 Assemblyman Tim Gordon is visiting Seton Health’s Schaghticoke Family Health Center to imagesupport the Reach Out and Read initiative by reading to a group of young patients. Assemblyman Gordon will read to the children from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Reach Out and Read is an initiative that trains doctors and nurses to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give books to children at check-ups from the age of six months to five years. During each check-up, an age-appropriate book is given to the parent and child to take home. Through the program, participating children start kindergarten with up to 10 new books. The books prepare the children to succeed by having larger vocabularies and stronger language skills.

Schaghticoke Family Health Center is one of 277 Reach Out and Read programs in New York State, providing books to more than 336,400 infants, toddlers and preschoolers each year. Besides Schaghticoke, Seton Health also participates in the Reach Out and Read program at its Capital Region Family Health Care, Clifton Park Family Practice, Clifton Park Pediatric Center, Mechanicville Family Health Center, Seton Health Pediatrics in Troy and Stillwater Family Health Center locations. Seton Health serves 3,526 of these children annually.

Schaghticoke Family Health Center is located at 8 Meadowview Drive, Schaghticoke. For more information, please call (518) 268-5517.
