The Rensselaer Cares Prescription Assistance Program helps patients get free or low-cost medication directly from pharmaceutical companies. Many people in the Rensselaer Cares Program are ineligible for prescription assistance from Medicaid and Family Health Plus, which have low income thresholds to qualify for assistance.
In 2011, the Rensselaer Cares Program enrolled 1,058 new patients and helped them obtain 3,928 prescriptions with a retail value of over $2.1 million. Since its inception in January 2007, the program has helped more than 4,000 uninsured and underinsured clients get more than 9,900 prescriptions with a retail value of almost $7.2 million.
