Seton Health Foundation Receives Donation from CAP COM Federal Credit Union to Support

Rensselaer-CaresTROY, N.Y.The CAP COM Cares Foundation, the charitable arm of CAP COM Federal Credit Union, made a $30,000 donation to the Seton Health Foundation in support of a prescription drug assistance program for low-income families in Rensselaer County. The gift will support the Rensselaer Cares Prescription Assistance Program, which filled nearly 4,000 prescriptions in 2011.

The Rensselaer Cares Prescription Assistance Program helps patients get free or low-cost medication directly from pharmaceutical companies. Many people in the Rensselaer Cares Program are ineligible for prescription assistance from Medicaid and Family Health Plus, which have low income thresholds to qualify for assistance.

In 2011, the Rensselaer Cares Program enrolled 1,058 new patients and helped them obtain 3,928 prescriptions with a retail value of over $2.1 million. Since its inception in January 2007, the program has helped more than 4,000 uninsured and underinsured clients get more than 9,900 prescriptions with a retail value of almost $7.2 million.

The Rensselaer Cares Program is a partnership involving Seton Health, St. Mary’s Hospital, the Medical Society of the County of Rensselaer, Inc, Northeast Health, Samaritan Hospital, and the Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Center in Troy.

“This generous gift from CAP COM Federal Credit Union will continue to provide assistance to people in Rensselaer County in need of prescriptions,” said Michael Danieli, Director of the Seton Health Foundation. “The gift allows us to continue to be a beacon of hope for uninsured and underinsured members of the community.”

The CAP COM Cares Foundation donation will be made as an annual $10,000 donation for the next three years. The Foundation has made similar annual gifts during the last three years.

“I am proud of our Foundation’s ongoing support of community health and wellness initiatives like the Rensselaer Cares Program,” said Paula A. Stopera, President/CEO of CAP COM Federal Credit Union.
