The Center for Smoking Cessation at Seton Health is funded entirely by the New York State Department of Health's Bureau of Tobacco Use Prevention and Control to provide free services to healthcare providers. The goal of the Center is to provide training, technical assistance and follow-up to healthcare institutions and providers on addressing tobacco dependence with patients and assisting them with quitting. The Center uses evidence-based resources and programs to further goals of addressing tobacco use with all patients. The center covers eight counties including Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Greene, Columbia, Schoharie, Otsego and Delaware. Collectively, healthcare has a huge impact on public health and we know that together we can lower the rates of tobacco use in New York State.
The Center is widely known for The Butt Stops Here program which is offered throughout the Capital District at convenient locations to help you quit smoking. This proven stop smoking program, The Butt Stops Here is a seven-week series designed to give you the support and assistance you need to quit, once and for all.
If you've tried to quit on your own and have been unsuccessful, don't be discouraged. You have a much higher chance for success with the support of a group. In fact, the quit rate at the Center for Smoking Cessation is 20 percent higher than the national average!
The program offers nicotine replacement therapies such as the nicotine patch or nicotine gum, and teaches proven techniques that can help you kick the addiction forever.
The fee for the program is $40 and is free for those who qualify.
The Center has launched an ongoing weekly support group every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital. This program is free and is designed for those who have trouble quitting and staying quit.
